Lieutenant Sheldon L. Perkins, Chapter President
I began my career at the Durham Police Department in 1999 as a Reserve Officer. During the short time I spent as a Reserve, I realized that I enjoyed Police work so much that I wanted to do it full time. So in September of 1999 I left a career in sales to be a Durham Police Officer. Like all officers I started on patrol and was assigned to District 3. I was promoted to Corporal in 2004 and moved to Central District where I supervised our squad’s Bike Unit. After this I was transferred to Homicide where I worked with some of the best investigators in the profession. After a couple of years I was promoted to Sergeant and moved to District 1. After a short period I returned to Criminal Investigations where I was the Sergeant over SVU and then Homicide. I was then promoted to Lieutenant where after being the Watch Commander, I served as the Assistant Commander of Criminal Investigations and the Training Division. I’ve served as the Durham Chapter President of the North Carolina Sheriff Police Alliance since 2010.
